Spring break status

It may be Snowmaggedon 2013 at home, but here in Savannah the sun is shining!
The hubs and I have fled for sunnier climes, at least for the week. We have walked, talked, napped, shopped, eaten, drank, slept and repeated. Savannah is beautiful, and easy to walk around. The food is sublime and while it is chillier than normal, the sun is out and we are relaxing. Why, yes, I did bring a machine for some sewing/quilting!

I'm still here...

Just bogged down by the day job! Traveling for work bites into my quilting time, but I have gotten a bit done this weekend:

A piece that is going into a shop next month, more to come!

In other news, I have a busy teaching schedule in the coming months.

I am quite excited to share Free-motion quilting with more new friends! I have other classes scheduled for May and June and will share those soon. 

Like many others, I am disappointed to be loosing Google Reader. I have really enjoyed having all my favorites in that space. But times change, so I am now following blogs using Bloglovin. And I like it so far. It has a nice clean look, and I can migrate just the blogs I want to keep.

the ides of March

I had an AMAZING group of students in my Fearless Free-Motion class yesterday. What a fun way to spend National/International/Universal Quilting Day. Spreading the love of quilting!

And the day job is really intense. I am traveling this week so I will miss my TMQG meeting. Bummer.

gorgeous colors

I love quilting with bright beautiful hand-dyed fabrics. I received a box of scraps from a marvelous dyer (& quilter, too), Vicki from Field Trips in Fiber. She graciously sent me her scraps and I have made this quilt for our guild charity, Senior Services. This was such fun to piece!

 Vicki's scraps included tiny little triangles, orphan blocks, and strips. It was like pouring a rainbow out of the box! I began by grouping the scraps into similar size/shape piles. I did take my time, as these colors were so vivid and rich, it was a joy to separate and press them.

 I FMQ-ed this with a large, open swirl, using variegated thread and backed it with a batik from our guild stash. I still have more tiny triangles and a great stack of pre-cut tumbler shapes. (she must have a die-cutter, those little notches make piecing these shapes a breeze!) Those will go into a future charity quilt.

It measures 42" square. We have received feedback from the organization, they love the quilts! The recipients are so happy to receive them. As I make these charity quilts, I am hoping the recipient feels the love I pour into it. (corny, but true!) So a very special shout out and sincere "Thank You" to Vicki.

Not too productive

Not a very productive sewing week, to start, but I got a bit of motivation this weekend. I received some incredible hand-dyed scraps from Vicki at Field Trips in Fiber and they inspired me.

I have pieced a top for our guild's charity, Senior Services. We had a sew-in this afternoon and I got it basted. Nice to have something to quilt on this week.
